OCSC members believe in giving back to our community and we do it through financial contributions and by volunteering. Volunteering makes you feel good and it's a great way to get to know other spouses. We bond as we work. Plus it really makes a difference in people's lives.
Could YOU be an OCSC volunteer? Do you feel like you want to do something, but your time is limited? There are many volunteer opportunities throughout the year. There are many one-time, short time volunteer opportunities. There are also serious, time consuming positions that would look great on your resume! Sometimes, all you need to do is bring a box of food for a donation drive.
Some of the volunteers opportunities available through the OCSC are listed below. For more information about our volunteering program, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteercoordinator@spangdahlemocsc.org.
Wittlich Nursing Home Each December, the OCSC organizes a visit to the Wittlich Nursing Home. OCSC members and their families visit residents to spread Christmas cheer. Often, girl scout troops will accompany the OCSC members to the nursing home as well.
Holiday Dorm Baskets Each December the OCSC organizes 1,000 baskets of goodies for the dorm residents. Thousands of homemade goodies are donated for the goodie baskets. Volunteers are needed to bake goods, help bag the goodies and for delivery. For more information regarding the Holiday Dorm Baskets, contact our Holiday Dorm Basket Chair at dormbaskets@spangdahlemocsc.org.
Eifel Holiday Bazaar Each November, the OCSC hosts the Eifel Holiday Bazaar. A large number of volunteers is needed for the bazaar to run smoothly. Click here for more information about the Eifel Holiday Bazaar.
Sew Much Comfort Sew Much Comfort is a project that creates adaptive clothing for wounded soldiers. Boxer shorts are adapted to have Velcro on the sides for wounded troops. Some sewing skill is required; however, there are many ways to get involved for non-sewers as well. This is a great way of letting wounded soldiers know that you care. The point of contact for Sew Much Comfort is Glenna Noret. For more information about Sew Much Comfort, contact Glenna at sewmuchcomfort@spangdahlemocsc.org.
Operation Open Arms Operation Open Arms thanks our servicemen and women heading downrange or returning home by handing out goodie bags at the Spangdahlem passenger terminal. Treats are donated by various base organizations. Volunteers are needed to help bag the goodies and to help pass out the bags at the terminal. The Operation Open Arms contact is Keyra Elmo. For more information about Operation Open Arms, email Keyra at jacksgirl19@hotmail.com.
